Windows Media Player

OK, so I think I was finally successful in my quest of ripping a DVD to a format that the Xbox would play and that also supported 5.1 audio (the audio is actually what was causing me the most grief). A friend of mine had come across an app someone wrote called avi.NET, which while it works flawlessly for him, totally didn’t work for me. I then stumbled upon a 2 year old app called DVD-WMV and w00t, I got something that works.

There were a few quirks to the app I had to get adjusted to, and I also had to deal with the fact that this particular DVD appears to have a history of having audio sync issues, but overall, I’m quite happy with the results. The app does everything from decrypting the DVD, demuxing the audio, fixing the audio sync (expect in this case, I used ASFbin to manually resync the audio afterwards), to finally encoding with Windows Media Encoder. An added benefit of doing this with wmv is that they seem to stream better from a network computer to the Xbox wirelessly where previously trying to stream transcoded divx/xvid movies just wouldn’t play over wireless.

Since you don’t have a forum anymore, I’m going to post questions in random post comments.

So you’re thinking… and so it begins. /me facepalm

So I now have access to viirevox.com, and have been browsing around the PowwebOps page some. All I want my site to do is about the same as I did before… blog + picture gallery. WordPress turned me back on to having a site again, so I’m obviously wanting to go that route. I will also probably construct some very, very simple HTML mini sites on sub-domains for my classic videogame addictions, and my music side project for which we are recording at the moment called ‘Who Brings a Knife?’

Anyway… to install wordpress… powweb has its automated tool… In an effort to not make things more difficult for myself from the getgo, do I want to have the auto-installer install it to the root of my space, or make a separate folder for it? Also, I’m figuring wordpress has no gallery integration, and I will have to install a separate gallery. What should I go after, and how would I go about integrating it into the same look/feel of my wordpress client?

I guess I’ll start there for now. Now that I’m paying for hosting, and not leeching from a friend’s server 24/7, I should be able to keep and maintain this thing for the forseeable future. Just gotta shake the cobwebs out. It’s most definitely been a long time. Wouldn’t happen to have any of my old graphics lying around, eh? lol
