Brian Baltz

I am a 30 something year old father of 2, husband of 1.  I was born in, and have lived my whole life in, Nashville, TN.  I’ve been an employee of Vanderbilt Medical Center since 1997.  Currently, I am a programmer, perpetually designing and implementing an in-house workstation management/automation platform.  I also do quite a bit of application integration work as well as just about anything else Tier 3 level support would do.

I attended college at Middle Tennessee State University as a Fine Arts student, obviously.  My primary emphasis was in Painting with secondary interest in both Print Making and Sculpture.  Somewhere during my time there I began to realize that the process of making my art was as important to me as the end result.  I think that interest in process is what made for a pretty easy transition from my artsy college world to the structured, programmatic world of computing.  Well, that and my love of video games.

Aside from some watercolors with the kids and painting the deck, I haven’t touched a paintbrush in years, but I do still do some visual work in Photoshop from time to time.  Now my creations tend to occur in code.

It is probably also worth mentioning that I have an unhealthy love of video games and Iron Man.  I’ve been playing video games since the days of Atari and playing them online since the days of MUDS.  I’ve been a fan of Iron Man ever since a friend of mine bought me a large stack of comics for my birthday sometime during grade school.
