The name mimicvii has become something of my online persona over the 12 years I have been using it.  It is not the roman numeral 1997.  Nor does it stand for Mimic 7, although that’s originally how it was intended to be read.

Back in 1997 I was playing lots of JediKnight on the Microsoft Zone under the nick “Bungle”.   I eventually started to notice that there was a growing number of people using similar nicks and I wanted to come up with something unique.   Around that same time, one of my favorite bands, Faith No More, were on tour and one of the tour shirts had MIMICVII printed on the back.  A lot of discussion was going on in one of their fan mailing lists questioning what it stood for, but no one ever knew for sure.  For whatever reason, I decided to turn it into my nick and used it as MimicVII.

Some years later I began to just use the name as mimicvii with no intentions of the name being read as Mimic*anything*, since in reality the “name” doesn’t mean anything anyway.  However, I do often refer to myself as mim and respond to mim, mimi, mimic, mimic7, or mimic vee eye eye.

Luckily, this name is so unique, if you ever see the name mimicvii online, anywhere, it is probably me.
